Supriya

Supriya – a Latvian art student in Newcastle

Supriya, a twenty-six year old Latvian sannyasin, is studying art and design at the Newcastle College - in Newcastle, of course. She came to the UK because she felt it was a free and open society in which she hoped to be able to express herself and her art more openly than in her own country. Her hopes have definitely been fulfilled and she is very happy being here and plans to stay for at least another 3 years. She took sannyas at Osho Leela last year in August and came to Croydon Hall for the Winter Celebration. She is really happy to share her art with other sannyasins via our virtual Art Gallery on OSHOinUK.

About her painting entitled Life and Death Supriya says, "About 3 years ago I had a near-death experience. I was drowning and I experienced something that I will never forget. It was so beautiful! And I had a clear feeling after that that I wanted to meditate! And then I found Osho. This was a new life for me; I felt that I had come home. Very often during meditation I feel that I’m dying...

This painting is very important to me. It is a very personal piece. It was difficult to talk about my experience before but now I don’t mind sharing it. The painting was like therapy for me and through the process I have discovered so much about me and my life...."
