
Vivek writes: "In response to being publicly asked by my local NHS directors how to create a world class healthcare service, I have written a 35 page paper advocating the NICE approved Mindfulness (MBCT) course run as a sandwich between Osho Dynamic and Kundalini.
On 30 Sep 2008 there was a follow up meeting - to the one in July - and was attended by 150 people. The purpose was to finalise the strategic plan for health in Brighton and Hove for the next 3 years (which spends more than £1 m per day...).
I was able to grab the mike and say, ‘we have to move from drug based treatments which don’t work (eg Prozac) to meditation based treatments which do work, such as NICE-approved MBCT courses, but which are only available privately.’
The chief executive said publicly that he didn’t know about them (although I have e mailed him at least 5 times). He came up to me afterwards, and I gave him the reference.
Finally, the draft constitution for the NHS which was handed out at the meeting contains the following: ‘You have the right to drugs and treatments that have been recommended by NICE if your doctor says they are clinically appropriate for you’. " The paper can be read here...
